A leaf vacuum is exactly what you think it is. It’s a type of vacuum that you can use outdoors to pick up leaves.
Why Vacuum Leaves?
Fallen leaves on a lawn may look autumnal and picturesque, but leaving them really isn’t good for your lawn. The leaves block much needed sunlight, and hinder the evaporation of moisture. Both important things for a healthy lawn.
After leaves fall on a hard surface such as pavement, they rot and become slippy. This causes a dangerous hazard, so it’s important to remove the leaves before this can happen.
There are other reasons too; for aesthetic reasons, to compost them, for power generation through burning.
So What’s The Need Again?
Generally the need for a leaf vacuum is for the following reasons:

- Removing a slipping hazard

What Types Of Leaf Vacuum Are there?
Anything that uses suction to gather leaves is technically a leaf vacuum. These days a lot of leaf blowers have a suction function.
The funny thing is about our leaf vacuum, is that is looks like a lawn mower, such as a mountfield sp46, but even though it’s similar in shape it’s very different in function.
There are also large street sweeper type machines that use suction to suck up leaves, litter and other debris. You will have seen these before cleaning the streets.
There are dedicated leaf vacuums. They are usually powered by an internal combustion engine. The power from the engine allows them to be driven forwards. This means they pick leaves up along their path.
